What My Hospice means is different to each individual and family we serve. For Carol, it means spending time with beloved cats, even when she can no longer take care of her own pet. As Medicare’s first coordinated care model, we must protect the services like pet therapy under the Medicare Hospice Benefit for patients like Carol.

Carol has been a cat lover since childhood and recalls how her neighborhood cats knew to make their way to her house for food and attention. As a cat owner throughout her life, it was difficult when health issues prevented Carol from caring for her own pets. However, The Elizabeth Hospice introduced Carol to a therapy cat named Lily. Now Carol still gets a loving dose of feline companionship, even in hospice.

“Lily is a treasure. Her calico striping, amber eyes and soft white coat make her a magnificent creature. She’s majestic and so sweet. It’s such a treat when she comes by for a visit.”
