This is your Mid-Point August Recess Check-in! Have you met with your lawmaker to discuss hospice and palliative care or attended a local townhall? Have you invited your Member of Congress to a We Honor Veterans Event or stopped by their in district offices to talk about hospice and palliative care legislation?

If not, you still have time to engage with federal lawmakers while they are back in their hometowns campaigning for the 2020 election year.

The Minnesota Network of Hospice and Palliative Care took advantage of this time by hosting a meeting with Congressman Jim Hagedorn (R-MN-1). See below for a recap of the event and make sure you keep HAN informed, so we can capture and share all of the advocacy work you are doing on behalf of patients and families.

Submitted by Elizabeth Johnson, Public Policy Intern for the Minnesota Network of Hospice and Palliative Care:

Last Friday August 2, a group of hospice providers from southern Minnesota and met with District 1 Representative Congressman Jim Hagedorn. Participants shared hospice and palliative care stories and facts, including the hospice utilization profile of his congressional district. The group addressed the Rural Access to Hospice Act, HR 2594, and the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act, HR 647, and asked Congressman Hagedorn to sign on to these important bills.

We are grateful to Congressman Hagedorn for taking the time to discuss these issues and agreeing to sign on to these bills. If you are a constituent of his, please send him a thank you for his commitment to support these pieces of legislation!
