The Hospice Action Network’s Hill Day 2012 – Capitol Hill Day like you’ve never seen it! If you’re a Hill Day veteran, you know that we like to up the ante each year – more education, more time on the Hill, more impact! 2012 will be no different. Whether you’ve been to the Hill with us in recent years, or even if you have never been to D.C., this is one Hill Day you aren’t going to want to miss!
The past few years of Hospice Advocacy have been a roller coaster. We have had serious challenges that have been swept up in national headlines – health care reform, deficit reduction, and even bail outs – issues you might never expect to impact hospice have both hurt and helped us. Even with those tumultuous events behind us, the national budget crisis, election 2012 and imminent entitlement reform are still ahead and could have additional major implications for the end- of-life care that your patients and families depend on.
In recent years we have had so much success in presenting an organized and unified hospice community to Congress that it would be easy to follow the formula and do the same in 2012. But, the Capitol Hill climate and national challenges require us to do more. And the hospice community knows a little something about doing more.
What’s new? In 2012, you can expect virtual strategy sessions in advance of the event, a streamlined messaging workshop and even better state networking sessions. As in years past, we’ll take care of all of the details, schedule your meetings, get you to and from the Hill, and stock you up with materials and data. All you need to do is register and show up with comfortable shoes!

Tuesday, March 27
5:00pm – 6:00pm Hill Day 2012 Policy and Message Briefing
6:00pm – 7:30pm Dinner with state delegations, state caucusing sessions, and schedule distribution
Wednesday, March 28
8:30am – 9:00am Breakfast to go and bus loading
10:00am – 4:00pm Respite Room open/Congressional meetings
4:00pm – 6:30pm Buses to Gaylord
*Please note: Capitol Hill Day 2012 is a comprehensive, multi-day event that begins on the afternoon of March 27th. Messaging and state coordination sessions are a prerequisite for anyone joining NHPCO on the Hill for Congressional meetings. Scheduling details will be provided for registrants, but attendees should make sure that their travel arrangements allow for both days of activities. Pre-registration is required - we cannot accommodate on-site registrations due to the time involved in requesting Congressional meetings and the necessary commitment to Hill Day Strategy Sessions.
The deadline to register for Capitol Hill Day is March 1st.
This event is free to all members of the hospice community. After you register, you will need to select your Congressional meetings. NHPCO HAN will contact you via email to help you arrange these meetings.
